CIRCUS OF LIFE
(the show goes on..)

The waltz of the dancing hippos
Brings yawns and polite applause
The Act of the well dressed mongoose,
Gets whistles and high pitched boos

The angry crowd sneers and threatens
And it is time to bring Him on:
An old canon with a short lit fuse
Shoots out the rotund Clown

Voila!

A cheer erupts from the rows
Children wake up to a ready smile
With a devilish smirk and a bulbous nose
Our underpaid jester bows in style

The dwarfs hand the clown a beating
And give him rowdy chase
The audience split their sides laughing
When he lands hard on his face

In the routine of the Cobra Kiss
The clown guarantees to enthrall all..
(When a danseuse at his ear whispers
“Oh brother.. you have sired a girl !’’

His smile shrinks when he sees her nod
And asks of his labored wife
In the sad shake of the dancer’s head
He realizes he lost the woman of his life)

There is now thunder in the tent tonight
The mob is on its feet
To see the clown evade the venom’d bite
In such an awesome feat

‘He seems a little slow this season’
The manager tells a stone-eyed fake
The grin's wide on the hapless clown
As he taunts the angry snake

The multitude ooos and awws
Every serpentine swish and hiss
There is prize of a hundred rupees
If on its hood he plants a kiss

His mind a swirl of raging pain
His eyes with tears are flood..
Alas !
The striking reptile injects deadly toxin
Into the conduits of his blood

The clown feigns flamboyance
The horde’s applause deafen;
Scoffing,
Beside the hissing cobra he kneels
And seals his purple lips on its crown

Then with a wave to the cheering mass
The clown makes his last exit;
A unicorn gallops onto the dais
And the crowd is again on its feet.

Anatomy of Hatred
In the Name of the Father
*
It was a jungle out there. Survival defined all Life. To survive was Primary and Paramount. At any cost. At all costs.
*
Fear was essential for Survival. Hatred is the product of Fear. You Fear something which has the power/ability to destroy you – your life, your amenities. You hate something because you Fear it has the power to destroy your life and interests (sometime/ anytime) even if the threat itself is not imminent.
*
Neutralization of the threat (Of the Natural) required understanding of the source. Removal of the threat (Of the Living) required termination of the cause – very often, Killing.
*
Only two independent emotions are powerful enough to instigate Murder – Hunger and Hatred: For Food, and out of Fear. Killing for food, an act out of physiological necessity. Killing out of Hatred, a psychological perversion.
*
With the discovery of Fire and the invention of primitive Tools (& weapons) Man’s fear of Nature’s fury and Beasts rapidly disappeared. Now serious 'threat' seemingly existed only from one quarter- His own species.
*
So Man embarked on a killing spree - a pre-emptive mission of termination, murdering his own kind by the thousands and millions, initially for reasons of Food, livestock, work-slaves, then for increasingly decadent reasons of Land, Gold, Women and then for abstract and illusionary reasons of Domination, Power and Ambition.
*
Man’s sustenance of hatred toward his own kind required strong ‘Emotion’. Here Emotion becomes but a tool in hands of the Mind to delude his power of Reason.. Anything different from himself immediately becomes suspect. Any difference between Men was exploited into becoming a reason. Very often, the full effort of his intelligence was employed to track down these differences. Various reasons from skin color to geographic location to dissimilar practices provided motivation and raison d’etre.
*
The greatest Fear was spawned by the greatest Threat– Death. Death : All powerful and Unconquerable. Invisible. The mind retaliates by inventing a creator for this Threat - God. (The invention of God did not follow Man’s wonderment of Nature, Life and Cosmos, but his low nagging, nauseous fear of Ageing and Death.) But here strangely Fear does not breed Hatred for the supposed author of Death (God). It does a 360. Fear breeds Love. An unreal Love. A delusional Pretence. Anything to get into His good books - Rituals, Offerings, Sacrifices. False Love, most readily. (Take the sting out of God – make him less Wrathful and Humans will Hate a fright causing God, Hate being Man’s inherent and genetic response to Fear-Instigators.)
*
Unable to direct his Hatred towards an invisible author of his own creation who he supposes perpetrated his greatest cause of Fear, and forced to delude himself into ‘Love’ing Him, Man finds a new reason to resurrect and focus his natural propensity for Hatred: Religion. Religion now becomes the new difference between Men which creates the new threat and becomes the handy new murderous reason.
*
More people have been killed in the name of God than any other.

.

In a shanty ruin
among the smoky shadows
of oil lamps;
beneath flowing robes
and
greying beards,
parched lips and steeled hearts,
hatred bloomed
a flower of thorns.

*

Poverty and religion -
the hungry love for a narrow god.
Men of wisdom
and gift
plotted ruin
to brash capitalism,
greed;
death to infidels
and an alien creed.

*

A stroke of devious genius
to harness high technology,
the science of the mind
and pure evil
to
guide gleaming falcons
into beaming beacons
of freedom
optimism
and unbridled ambition

.

Work turned death
heroes turned martyrs
a hundred storeys
with twisted tales
of horror
pain
endurance
suffering
and a million dreams
go up in smoke and debris

*

Witness
the silhouettes against
a now unfamiliar skyline;
what was
is not,
what was thought
became naught.

*

Like beggars we pick
up shreds
the remnants of our dignity
our possession
our pride
and limp
some in
some out
of the dark enveloping haze
into a setting sun.

*

While behind us
below us
about us
within us
the cries of disbelief
the moans of agony
and the deafening sounds
of silence..

*

If u have not lost
how do u dare to even fathom
the pain,
if yours is not taken
how do u dare to perceive
the loss

*

When the belief of one
becomes the death of another
as in all battles between men,
at whom
do we point a finger
on whom
do we drop the bomb.
