IT IS ALL IN THE STARS

Astrology is a practice that claims celestial influence on human minds/character, and on terrestrial events. If we can permit ourselves a degree of openness and suspend the necessity of 'proof' while we delve into to this age-old practice which allegedly figured out a way to attribute human-mind characteristics to heavenly (bodies') influences, then we can attempt to rationally analyze the 'claimed' astrological effect of the stars on us, however absurd that might sound today; especially when we are are readily theorizing more fantastic scientific probabilities like parallel universes, dozen dimensions, time travel to past future etc.

The reasoning is that as far as the horoscope element of astrology is concerned, its highly plausible that emanations from celestial bodies could affect the quantum genetics of the fragile, susceptible human embryos in the womb, so as to be able to define to some extent its psychological characteristics as adult.

Now does this sound far fetched or improbable ?. As improbable as parallel universes, dozen dimensions, time travel ?? No. Its precisely because of the absence of appreciable proof (as yet) that we debate this in the philosophical forum and not in the scientific forum. But then again, absence of proof could also mean that it's the science which is rudimentary and not the concept that is absurd.

ASTROLOGY : An ancient study dealing with alleged :-

Celestial influence on Human personality, and
Celestial influence on terrestrial occurrences

which is to claim, that a certain pattern of assemblage of heavenly bodies can mold /influence human character/ behavior, in certain ways, and also instigate terrestrial events.

Lets for a moment give the Ancients the benefit of doubt, Lets grant that they too like us were generally well intentioned, not too stupid ( after all they did a pretty commendable job of identifying, classifying, characterizing a sizable celestial population thousands of years ago, seemingly without fancy gadgets). Now lets lend a fair ear to their beliefs:

They believed that - people born under a particular assemblage of heavenly bodies tend to exhibit an appreciable similarity in patterns of behavior, thought process etc. maybe even a few similar physical attributes.

They believed that- there is an increased probability of terrestrial events like natural catastrophes -- earthquakes, comet strikes, plagues, even man made catastrophes -- large scale wars, civilization disintegration, etc during the emergence of particular celestial patterns in the skies.

This then was the rudimentary derivative of ancient astrology, in a non technological age when the eye and the mind dictated percepts. Of course, frauds, pranksters, priests since time immemorial saw in this concept an exciting way to assume immense power and control the minds of men and kings. Gradually reduced to a sham, it soon took advantage of itself and regressed to realms of least possibility, outrageous fantasy and the totally ridiculous. We all know how that works.

Set aside the claims of the effect of stars on terrestrial events, spend a few moments on the accompanying belief: the effect of the stars on human physiology and psychology. Surely it seems to permit more logic. How ??

It could all be in the waves. It is entirely possible that radiation or similar effectuations from a particular pattern of stellar bodies at a particular time could influence the physiology/psychology of life including that of humans. It doesnt require any undue stretch of scientific understanding to accept as plausible that celestial radiation might alter or affect some yet unknown quantum of genetics (perhaps more in the susceptible embryonic stage) of humans, so that a particular set of physical or mental traits are manifest in them, to an observable level, later on. The extra terrestrial radiation might be negligible for the adult body, but who is to say to what extent it could affect embryonic forms.

Maybe for a Leo… the radiation or some other logical effectuation due to a particular planetary/celestial arrangement is such that those formative embryos subjected to that kind of a radiation would probably grow up to be men/women who are relatively more short tempered, more lusty, maybe with a general propensity to arrogance..

Maybe Sagittarians are likely to be more robust physically, with genetic attributes for keener eyesight, greater analytical capacity... and ofcourse if more amongst them are blessed with good physical traits, we can assume that more amongst them would seek livelihoods and pursuits (media, athletics?) that take advantage of what they are naturally endowed with. Though certainly not most or all Sagittarians of this planet.. There are just too many variables around for that to be happening.

Today we have 'astrologists' scampering all over the media telling us who would win a cricket match, when to write our exams, who's next to assume political power etc. Ridiculous of course. Astrology as we know it today (esp in India), where marriages, jobs, lives are strictly guided by these blatantly fraudulent practitioners is condemnable..
But that doesn't take it away from the fact that ancient astrology is a valiant, astonishing and seemingly probable attempt to correlate human personality/behavior to influences from a pattern of stars, by its emanative effect on our physical and psychological composition.

The original intended concept of astrology, especially the horoscope element, cannot be rubbished without a non partisan study, when science is ready and equipped to effectively dissect it.
