THE AVATAR

Tinkling Bells
Garlanded Gods
Wisps of Camphor Smoke
Whispered Prayer

From the corner of my EyE
A Girl
Sculpted in Silence
Head bowed in Reverence
And Me

Lost

To Bells and Gods
Regarded this Deity;
From painted Toes to fluttering Lips
to scarf layered hair
my eyes fleeted.
A thousand thoughts swift-footed
my paresised Mind -
I gazed at her
On taunt toes
Till
Engulfed

By sweaty Flesh
Of Ash covered Devotees
She merged
And Disappeared
Into the Thronging multitudes
Of translucent Eternity
Leaving Me
Filled

With the very Peace
for which
I came Searching.
